About Scooter:
Scooter is a prominent German electronic dance music group that emerged in 1993 from Hamburg. The group was initially formed by H.P. Baxxter (Hans Peter Geerdes), Rick J. Jordan (Hendrik Stadler), and Ferris Bueller (Sören Bühler). Known for their distinctive blend of techno, hardcore, and happy hardcore elements, Scooter quickly became a staple in the European dance music scene.
Scooter’s breakthrough came with their 1994 single “Hyper Hyper,” which became a massive club hit and established their energetic and anthemic style. They followed up with a series of successful tracks such as “Move Your Ass!,” “Friends,” and “Endless Summer,” each showcasing their knack for creating infectious dance anthems with pounding beats and catchy hooks.
Over the years, Scooter has maintained their popularity by continually evolving their sound while staying true to their high-energy roots. They have released numerous albums, including “Our Happy Hardcore,” “Age of Love,” “No Time to Chill,” and “Jumping All Over the World,” many of which have achieved gold and platinum status. Their 2003 hit “Maria (I Like It Loud)” further cemented their reputation as pioneers in the genre.
Scooter’s live performances are renowned for their electrifying energy, featuring elaborate light shows, pyrotechnics, and Baxxter’s charismatic stage presence. Despite lineup changes over the years, with Jordan and Bueller eventually leaving the group, Baxxter has remained the constant driving force behind Scooter.
With over 30 million records sold worldwide, Scooter has left an indelible mark on the electronic dance music landscape. Their ability to create enduring dancefloor anthems and their dedication to delivering high-octane performances have earned them a dedicated global fanbase and a lasting legacy in the world of techno and rave music.
About “Maria (I Like It Loud)“:
“I Like It Loud” is a 1997 song by Marc Acardipane Presents Marshall Masters featuring The Ultimate MC, incorporating a lyric from LL Cool J’s “I Can’t Live Without My Radio.” Scooter covered the song in 2003 as “Maria (I Like It Loud),” featuring Marc Acardipane and Dick Rules, and released it as part of their album The Stadium Techno Experience. This version reached No. 4 in Germany and Austria and became popular in sports arenas, used by various football clubs and teams to enhance the stadium atmosphere.
About the arrangement:
Around the tenth anniversary of the release of “Maria” the popular R.I.O. remix version was released. I first came across this remix in one of my favorite spin classes, Les Mills RPM #63.
If you’re a fellow spin-enthusiast I highly recommend the Les Mills On Demand programming which offers a host of different fitness classes. You can try it out for free for 30 days!
