This is a multi-level pack of “B-I-N-G-O” that will be a great fit for primer and beginning level students. I love using multi-level pieces with students because they are usually very willing to “level up” and try the next version of the piece and this leads to nice results in terms of progress. It also helps to show them how to learn pieces incrementally with a built-in “scaffolding” technique. Here’s what I mean:
VERSION 1: This is a single line version that contains only the melody. The focus here is to teach students to use the fingerings correctly, especially for the crossovers. There are a couple note-name aides included for some of the ledger line notes.
VERSION 2: This version adds in basic harmonic intervals in the L.H. so it sounds fuller and lusher.
VERSION 3: The most challenging version is similar to Version 2 but adds in a harmonic 6th in the left hand, staccatos, the F-sharp in the left hand, and an accent mark.
Use this piece (especially Version 1) as a transposition exercise. Have students transpose to the key of G major and D major (as a challenge!) This opens up a good discussion about intervals, scales, etc.
