🔎 About “The Black Dog”
After announcing her album The Tortured Poets Department at the 2024 Grammys, Taylor Swift teased fans with the revelation of four bonus tracks: “The Manuscript,” “The Bolter,” “The Albatross,” and “The Black Dog.” The final bonus track was revealed ahead of the album’s launch on April 19th. Additionally, on the day of the album’s release, Taylor surprised fans by dropping a second album containing 15 extra songs.
“The Black Dog,” initially thought to be exclusive to a special edition of the album, was later included in this second release. Announced with darker artwork and a pre-order link, the track was originally titled “Old Habits Die Screaming.” The term “black dog” typically refers to feelings of depression, but Taylor also uses it to suggest a British pub, possibly hinting at connections to her British exes, Matty Healy or Joe Alwyn. The song explores themes of betrayal and the end of a relationship, with Taylor singing about a partner visiting “The Black Dog” pub with another girl.
