🔎 About “How Did It End?”

When Taylor Swift was set to release her album The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD), she dropped a series of clues on Apple Music over a week, which fans deciphered to form the phrase, “We hereby conduct this postmortem.” This phrase appears in the TTPD track “How Did It End,” prompting fans to delve into the song’s lyrics and meaning.

“How Did It End” opens with the teased phrase and portrays a hidden romance fraught with complications. Taylor reflects on the unforeseen challenges and external influences that doomed the relationship, questioning, “How did it end?” The song features poetic lyrics about betrayal, lost love, and introspection, with fans speculating it might be about her ex, Joe Alwyn, given the references to a long-term relationship that ultimately fell apart.
