Kate Bush Sheet Music: "This Woman's Work"

About Kate Bush:

Catherine Bush, known as Kate Bush, is an accomplished English singer, songwriter, record producer, and dancer. Born on July 30, 1958, she achieved significant success early in her career with the self-written song “Wuthering Heights,” becoming the first female artist to top the UK Singles Chart at the age of 19. Throughout her career, Bush has released 25 UK Top 40 singles and nine studio albums, with three reaching number one in the UK.

Bush started writing songs at 11 and gained recognition when Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour helped produce her demo tape. Her debut album, “The Kick Inside,” was released in 1978. Over time, she asserted artistic independence in album production, handling all her studio albums since “The Dreaming” (1982). After a hiatus, she returned with the albums “The Red Shoes” (1993) and “Aerial” (2005).

In 2014, Bush’s concert residency “Before the Dawn” marked her return to live shows after decades. In 2022, “Running Up That Hill” gained renewed attention following its appearance in the Netflix series Stranger Things, reaching number one in the UK and topping various charts.

Bush’s unique musical style, unconventional lyrics, and literary themes have influenced diverse artists. She has received numerous accolades, including 13 Brit Awards nominations and a Grammy nomination. In 2002, she received an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music and was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2013.

Rolling Stone recognized Bush’s contributions by ranking her album “Hounds of Love” at number 68 on the list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2020. Additionally, “Running Up That Hill” was listed at number 60 in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time in 2021. In 2023, Bush was ranked at number 60 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time. Furthermore, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the same year.

About “This Woman’s Work”:

“This Woman’s Work,” initially featured in the soundtrack of the film She’s Having a Baby (1988). The lyrics revolve around confronting a crisis during childbirth. The song was used in a pivotal scene of the film, capturing the emotional intensity of the moment. The version on The Sensual World album was re-edited from the original soundtrack version. The song’s composition is in common time, with a slow tempo and is in the key of A-flat major.

The music video, directed by Bush, depicts a man anxiously waiting in a hospital while flashbacks reveal his wife’s health crisis. The video culminates in a poignant scene with Bush at the piano. Over the years, the song has been used in various media, experiencing chart resurgences, including after its feature in the Netflix film The Mother in May 2023. “This Woman’s Work” has been part of TV series, dramas, and films, contributing to its enduring popularity.
